My dad told me never to ride a horse I was embarrassed to be seen on....no matter where and although he never lived to see the fine specimens Sunglade Ranch is producing, I know he would be proud. He was an old time horseman, very particular about conformation and disposition and would not consider showing a horse before five years of age. He started all his young stock in a bosal and slowly developed them into the bit.
"The Hackamore Reinsman" was his favorite reading. A lot of his principles still hold with what I am doing in my program. I had put together three exceptional mares and then at that time had trouble finding a stallion here in Canada that I considered conformationally correct enough . Originally, I had no intentions of buying a stallion but when I laid eyes on "Bubba" I knew I had to have him. He was everything I wanted, superbly bred, conformationally exceptional, lovely disposition and incredibly talented. I was at the Futurity in OKC and luckily not only was he for sale, but the owner allowed me to take him home prepayment as I hadn't even taken any checks along! Trusting my gut feelings, I never even vet checked him.
Chics in The Male has had astounding results being bred to average mares. By his 4th foal crop, 47% of his offspring had been proven in the show pen in over 10 events. He has thrown outstanding conformation, excellent disposition and intelligence and great athletic ability. He has bred 100% color in paints and appalosas. He's definitely my idea of a Sire.
I've had him 12 years now and he has never even had a runny nose, never mind a lame step. He's been a joy to show, trail ride and breed. A true gentleman and gorgeous to look at, he keeps himself in show shape year round. All we do is blanket him.
